2019 NRL – Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs vs Penrith Panthers Preview & Prediction
THE TEAM NEWS
CANTERBURY-BANKSTOWN BULLDOGS
Head Coach: Dean Pay
Starting 13: Watene-Zelezniak, Meaney, Holland, Hopoate, R. Smith, Cogger, Lewis, Tolman, Lichaa, Napa, Jackson, Harawira-Naera, Elliott – Interchanges: Marshall-King, Toomaga, Fualalo, C. Smith – Reserves: Faitala-Mariner, Wakeham, Okunbor, Ogden
Unavailable: Kieran Foran, Sauaso Sue, Marcelo Montoya
Canterbury put in a decent display as they pushed Sydney Roosters all the way in their contest last week but ultimately fell short but if they can replicate that level of performance, they should pick up some wins soon.
Kieran Foran was expected to be back for the Bulldogs after failing to prove his fitness ahead of last week's game with the Roosters but he is nowhere to be seen in the squad this week and looks set to miss out again.
Head coach Dean Pay has named the same 17 that took to the field last week and following their solid display against the reigning premiers, it would be a surprise if any late changes were made to the side other than if it was fitness-related.
PENRITH PANTHERS
Head Coach: Ivan Cleary
Starting 13: Edwards, Mansour, Whare, Naden, To’o, Maloney, Cleary, Tamou, Kenny, Fisher-Harris, Martin, Winterstein, Yeo – Interchanges: Egan, Luai, Leota, Campbell-Gillard – Reserves: Leniu, Cartwright, Crichton, Sele
Unavailable: Tyrone May, Viliame Kikau
Penrith's brilliant winning run of seven matches was brought to an end as they came up against a superb Canberra side last week with the Panthers looking to get back on track immediately as they head to Canterbury.
The Panthers suffered no injuries or disciplinary issues last week and have named an unchanged 17 here despite their defeat to the Raiders but head coach Ivan Cleary has made one slight change.
Liam Martin played at lock last week but he will swap positions with Isaah Yeo in the back row although that could alter again before kick-off or in fact during the contest with the Bulldogs.
THE PREDICTION
Penrith will need to dust themselves down and attempt to get back to winning ways after their seven-game winning streak was ended last week. They head to the Bankwest Stadium to face Canterbury and although the Bulldogs are not fancied to claim the win, they could claim a shock result. The return of Lachlan Lewis boosted Canterbury last week and with another week under his belt alongside Jack Cogger, the Bulldogs could do enough to earn the win.
