MATCH PREVIEW | Wests Tigers vs North Queensland Cowboys

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Wests Tigers
The Tigers celebrated Robbie Farah’s 300th game with a vital 28-26 win in Newcastle. With five tries each (and a double to fullback Corey Thompson), Moses Mbye’s four goals from five was enough for the Tigers to scrape home. While they have more losses than wins (8-10), they’re equal ninth with Newcastle and Cronulla. It’s testament to the competition’s tightness. The Tigers celebrate a long-awaited return to Leichhardt Oval. They haven’t played there since round one (a 20-6 win over Manly-Warringah).

North Queensland
The Cowboys had another late fade out, this time against Cronulla-Sutherland at Shark Park (PointsBet Stadium). Tries to Scott Drinkwater, Matthew Scott and Francis Molo had the Cowboys 14-4 up early in the second half, but converted tries to Josh Dugan and Bronson Xerri snuck Cronulla home 16-14 in a Thursday night thriller. While the win delighted Prime Minister Scott Morrison (a regular at Sharks home games), it left the 7-11 Cowboys three points adrift of the eight and needing an almost faultless run home to make the finals.

SQUAD NEWS
Wests Tigers
No changes for the Tigers. Michael Chee Kam is named to play despite last week’s concussion.

Wests Tigers’ squad: 1. Corey Thompson 2. Paul Momirovski 3. Moses Mbye 4. Esan Marsters 5. David Nofoaluma 6. Benji Marshall 7. Luke Brooks 8. Josh Aloiai 9. Robbie Farah 10. Oliver Clark 11. Luke Garner 12. Michael Chee-Kam 13. Ryan Matterson 14. Matthew Eisenhuth 15. Thomas Mikaele 16. Alex Twal 17. Chris Lawrence 18. Jacob Liddle 19. Tommy Talau 20. Chris McQueen 21. Josh Reynolds.

North Queensland
Michael Morgan returns after three weeks out with concussion. John Asiata  moves to the bench, with Corey Jensen dropping to the reserves.

North Queensland squad: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Coen Hess 4. Tom Opacic 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Michael Morgan 7. Jake Clifford 8.Josh McGuire 9. Jake Granville 10. Jordan McLean 11. Gavin Cooper 12. Shane Wright 13. Jason Taumalolo 14. John Asiata 15. Matt Scott 16. Scott Bolton 17. Francis Molo 18. Corey Jensen 19. Tom Gilbert 20. Gideon Gela-Mosby 21. Reuben Cotter.

HEAD TO HEAD
The Tigers won a thriller in round 14 at Townsville, beating the Cowboys 27-26. Wests led 20-6 at halftime, but the Cowboys drew level at 26-26 to send it to Golden Point. A clutch field goal from Benji Marshall got the Tigers home in the 84th minute. Michael Chee Kam scored a double for the Tigers, with five goals to Esan Marsters.Their last head-to-head at Leichhardt was last season, with the Tigers winning 20-12, scoring four tries to two.

KEY BATTLE

Robbie Farah v Jake Granville

With Farah announcing his retirement, the finals six games (and maybe at least one finals appearance) give Tigers fans a chance to farewell their favourite rake. After his two-year stint at Souths, it’s fitting that Farah ends his career with the Balmain-Western Suburbs joint venture after the ugly departure in 2016. A penultimate game at Leichhardt (with the final game in round 25 against Cronulla-Sutherland) will be plenty of motivation for Farah.Granville has played every game for the Cowboys this year, helping his club stay in the finals race. If the Cowboys are to continue keeping their slim hopes alive, Granville will need to fire.

WHO WILL WIN?
A return to Leichhardt Oval is a bonus for the Tigers. North Queensland will be desperate to keep their tenuous finals hopes alive, though momentum gained from their win in Newcastle should see the Tigers home in a close one. Could it go to Golden Point again?

Wests Tigers by two.

MATCH PREVIEW | South Sydney Rabbitohs vs St George Illawarra Dragons

TEAM FORM GUIDE
South Sydney Rabbitohs
Origin hit South Sydney hard and coincided with their run of losses. Now the representative period is over, the team looks to be returning to somewhere near pre-origin, with back-to-back wins readying them for a crack at the finals. They followed up their 1-point victory over Manly with a fighting comeback victory over the Cowboys last week, scoring three tries in the final ten minutes of the game.

St George Illawarra Dragons
The Dragons last victory came nearly a month ago against the Cowboys. Since then it’s only gone from bad to worse. Without their representative players, they almost stole one against the Storm but followed up with two dismal displays against the Raiders and Panthers. A lot has been said about the Dragons in the past couple of days and rightly so, with their recent form just not up to scratch.

SQUAD NEWS
South Sydney Rabbitohs
1-17 South Sydney haven’t made any changes. The changes come in their reserves with the inclusion of the Burgess brothers. Reports are that Sam might still be a week away but Thomas Burgess is every chance of being a late inclusion on Friday night.

South Sydney Rabbitohs squad: 1. Adam Doueihi 2. Dane Gagai 3. James Roberts 4. Braidon Burns 5. Campbell Graham 6. Cody Walker 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Damien Cook 10. Dean Britt 11. John Sutton 12. Ethan Lowe 13. Cameron Murray
INTERCHANGE: 14. Tom Amone 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Jaydn Su’A 17. Kyle Turner RESERVES: 18. Connor Tracey 19. Corey Allan 20. Sam Burgess 21. Thomas Burgess

St George Illawarra Dragons
Not for the first time this year, the Dragons have made a host of changes. At least some of these changes are due to players returning from injury. Gareth Widdop returns in the halves to partner Ben Hunt, returning after his week off, pushing Corey Norman out to fullback. Matt Dufty has been moved to the bench. The dropping of wingers Jonus Pearson and Mikaele Ravalawa allowing Zac Lomax to make his return from injury and teenager Jason Saab to make his debut on the wing.

St George Illawarra Dragons squad: 1. Corey Norman 2. Jason Saab 3. Euan Aitken 4. Timoteo Lafai 5. Zac Lomax 6. Gareth Widdop 7. Ben Hunt 8. Blake Lawrie 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. James Graham
INTERCHANGE: 14. Josh Kerr 15. Korbin Sims 16. Matthew Dufty 17. Luciano Leilua RESERVES: 18. Reece Robson 19. Jacob Host 20. Patrick Kaufusi 21. Mikaele Ravalawa

HEAD TO HEAD

It’s hard to believe that this is nearly the same St George team that almost knocked South Sydney out of the finals last year in what was a thrilling golden point encounter. A lot has changed for both teams since then but such is the difference in improvement from that clash that when these two teams met in Round 2, South Sydney ended that with an easy 34-18 victory. In what ended up being Greg Inglis’ final match, South Sydney ran rampant over St George after the break, highlighting a worrying fade out that has become common for the Dragon’s team this year.

KEY BATTLE
The key for the Dragons will be how they respond to adversity. There have been stories all week attempting to dissect just what has gone wrong at the Dragons for 2019 and you can be sure, the players and coaching staff have taken this week to speak honestly and openly about their troubles. With their backs against the wall, it’s going to be about how this playing group can pick themselves back up. They need a fast start with some early points in this period to build confidence but it will all be for nothing if they aren’t committed for the full 80. Fixing their attitude will come down to fixing their defence. They have conceded 76 points in the last two weeks and have allowed- on average- 24-points per game and not to mention their struggles against sides inside the top 8. They have key players returning from injury but it will all be in vain if they can’t find that trust in defence.

South Sydney will be able to match the Dragons forward pack and expect Damien Cook to explode in this match with some attacking runs up the middle. Cameron Murray was a big factor the last time these two teams met and he will need to be closely watched and marked heavily for the entire contest. Braidon Burns helped himself to a few tries against the Dragons and expect South Sydney to attempt to expose the Dragons out wide in a similar fashion to Penrith last week. South Sydney’s normal game plan is to get into the grind with their opponent and tire them down. This might play into the Dragons strength, where an open game plan, with plenty of shifts will certainly have the Dragons working hard. This style of play will bring the likes of Cody Walker and James Roberts into play, and as we saw last week, when Souths abandon their structure and focus on playing what they say, they can score points at will.

WHO WILL WIN?
The Dragons will be hoping to remove the spotlight that has been placed upon them for the past week. A win against their more fancied opponents will help but a positive performance is much more important to instil pride and confidence back into the group. Still, South Sydney appear to have moved on from their origin hangover, with two contrasting victories. They are finding a way to win and with Wayne Bennet at the helm he will have them ready to face whatever is thrown their way. SOUTHS BY 10.

MATCH PREVIEW | Newcastle Knights vs Wests Tigers

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Newcastle Knights
At one point sitting in the top four, Newcastle (8-9) have gotten the post-Origin wobbles, losing to the NZ Warriors, Canterbury-Bankstown and the Sydney Roosters. Both the Warriors and Bulldogs losses were at home (their home record dropping to 4-5), while they were hammered by the Roosters at the SCG, a possible indication of the gulf in class between the top four and the rest. The Knights are clinging onto eighth by points differential: an almost certain finals spot now in jeopardy.

Wests Tigers
The Tigers have also fallen hard, losing three straight to the Roosters, Parramatta and Canberra. The Tigers were competitive in the second half in Canberra, but couldn’t get close enough to threaten the Raiders. The Tigers now sit in 12th with a 7-10 record, though are only one win behind the Knights thanks to a congested middle of the table.

SQUAD NEWS
Newcastle Knights
Newcastle are unchanged, with Kalyn Ponga returning last week against the Roosters.

Newcastle Knights’ squad: 1. Kalyn Ponga, 2. Hymel Hunt, 3. Tautau Moga, 4. Jesse Ramien, 5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall, 6. Kurt Mann, 7. Mitchell Pearce, 8. Daniel Saifiti, 9. Danny Levi, 10.David Klemmer, 11. Mitchell Barnett, 12. Sione Mata’utia, 13. Tim Glasby. 14. Connor Watson, 15. James Gavet, 17. Herman Ese’Ese, 19. Jamie Buhrer.

Wests Tigers
Fullback Corey Thompson returns. Moses Mbye returns centre after playing fullback in Canberra, with Michael Chee Kam moving to the back row. Alex Twal is on the bench, with Oliver Clark in the front row.

Wests Tigers’ squad: 1. Corey Thompson 2. Paul Momirovski 3. Moses Mbye 4. Esan Marsters 5. David Nofoaluma 6. Benji Marshall 7. Luke Brooks 8. Josh Aloiai 9. Robbie Farah 10. Oliver Clark l 11. Luke Garner 12. Michael Chee Kam 13. Ryan Matterson 14. Jacob Liddle 15. Thomas Mikaele 16. Alex Twal 17. Chris Lawrence.

HEAD TO HEAD
Since 1998, Newcastle and the Wests Tigers share a 13-13 record from 26 games. In keeping with this record, the clubs split their 2018 clashes. Newcastle won 22-20 in round 7, while the Tigers won 25-16 in round 21. Both times the away side won, a promising omen for the Tigers on Friday night.

KEY BATTLE
Kalyn Ponga vs Corey Thompson.

It’s the battle of the returning fullbacks in Newcastle. Ponga returned from a month out last weekend, kicking one goal from two attempts as the Roosters cantered home at the SCG. If Newcastle are to hang onto their finals spot, Ponga quickly needs to find his pre-Origin form (with seven tries and 46 goals so far) that propelled Newcastle on their seven-game winning run from rounds seven to thirteen.Corey Thompson has enjoyed a wonderful season for the joint venture club so far: only missing the Tigers’ loss in Canberra last weekend, and scoring seven tries in his sixteen games.

WHO WILL WIN?
A huge battle for a top eight spot. While neither team is in great form, Newcastle’s home ground advantage, driven by a partisan crowd, should be enough.

Newcastle by four.

MATCH PREVIEW | Cronulla Sharks vs North Queensland Cowboys

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Cronulla Sharks
The Cronulla Sharks are struggling, losing their last five consecutive matches. Their conversion rate is letting them down, with four of five matches being decided by 1-2 points.

North Queensland Cowboys
The Cowboys have struggled this season, winning just 7 from 17. Last weekend they struggled with a loss against the Rabbitohs, however, won against the Roosters by three points the weekend before.

SQUAD NEWS
Cronulla Sharks

Josh Dugan will take the place of Matt Moylan who is struggling with a hamstring injury. Braden Hamlin-Uele has been named to start to replace Andrew Fifita, who is serving his one-match suspension. Josh Morris makes his return from injury.

Sharks’ Squad: 1. Josh Dugan, 2. Sosaia Feki, 3. Bronson Xerri, 4. Josh Morris, 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo, 6. Shaun Johnson, 7. Chad Townsend, 8. Braden Hamlin-Uele, 9. Jayden Brailey, 10. Aaron Woods, 11. Briton Nikora, 12. Kurt Capewell, 13. Paul Gallen, 14. Blayke Brailey, 15. Jack Williams, 16. Matt Prior, 17. Billy Magoulias, 18. Jayson Bukuya, 19. Kyle Flanagan, 20. Scott Sorensen, 21. Sione Katoa

North Queensland Cowboys
Cowboys coach Paul Green has named an unchanged 17 to play on Thursday night after their loss to the Rabbitohs last weekend.

Cowboys’ Squad: 1. Scott Drinkwater, 2. Kyle Feldt, 3. Javid Bowen, 4. Tom Opacic, 5. Murray Taulagi, 6. John Asiata, 7. Jake Clifford, 8. Josh McGuire, 9. Jake Granville, 10. Jordan McLean, 11. Gavin Cooper, 12. Shane Wright, 13. Jason Taumalolo, 14. Coen Hess, 15. Matthew Scott, 16. Scott Bolton, 17. Francis Molo, 18. Peter Hola, 19. Reuben Cotter, 20. Corey Jensen, 21. Gideon Gela-Mosby

HEAD TO HEAD
The Sharks are dominant in the history between these two, winning the majority of their games over the last 20 years. The most recent match was earlier this year in round three, where the Sharks won 42 points to 16. Prior to that was another victory for Cronulla in 2018. Both the Cowboys and the Sharks have struggled this season, which will make for an interesting battle between
the two sides.

KEY BATTLE
There are a few key battles in this match between the Sharks and the Cowboys, one of which being Jason Taumalolo and Paul Gallen. Both are important and impactful players for their sides. Taumalolo is younger and therefore is likely to play more minutes, making a stronger impact on the Cowboys’ performance. Meanwhile, Gallen is physically incapable of playing many minutes, which can have an impact on Cronulla’s performance.

WHO WILL WIN?
Both sides have struggled this season and will be looking for redemption on Thursday night. The Sharks have a home ground advantage, however, may not be enough come game time. The Cowboys will be hoping for a win after their loss to South Sydney last weekend.
Cowboys by 4.

TEAM FORM GUIDE
North Queensland Cowboys
The home side sits in 10th after a season plagued by injuries and inconsistency. Last week’s win in Gosford against the high-flying Roosters will boost their hopes of making the finals and in this week’s game against the second placed Rabbitohs.

South Sydney Rabbitohs
The Rabbitohs got a much-needed win last week against the Sea Eagles (21-20). Before last week’s victory the once 10 wins 1 loss Rabbitohs had lost four on the trot and were looking at the prospect of sliding out of the top four. Wayne Bennett will like his chances in Townsville with the likes of Adam Reynolds and Damien Cook playing well there in the past.

SQUAD NEWS
North Queensland Cowboys
Cowboys captain Michael Morgan is named in the extended reserves following two head knocks. He remains an outside chance to return this week, though team doctors will most likely rest him for another week.
Murray Taulagi comes onto the wing for his NRL debut as coach Paul Green making only one forced change, with Javid Bowen shifting from wing to centre to replace Jordan Kahu (eye socket).

North Queensland Cowboys squad: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Javid Bowen 4. Tom Opacic 5. Murray Taulagi 6. John Asiata 7. Jake Clifford 8. Josh McGuire 9. Jake Granville 10. Jordan McLean 11. Gavin Cooper 12. Shane Wright 13. Jason Taumalolo 14. Coen Hess 15. Matt Scott 16. Scott Bolton 17. Francis Molo 18. Michael Morgan 19. Reuben Cotter 20. Corey Jensen 21. Daniel Russell.

South Sydney Rabbitohs
Queensland representative Ethan Lowe returns after being rested last week, and takes his place in to the back row with Dean Britt moving to prop to fill the void left by the suspended Liam Knight.

Mark Nicholls is added to the bench while youngster Bayley Sironen is omitted. Unfortunately for the Bunnies there is still no Sam Burgess after he suffered a setback in his recovery from shoulder surgery as reported by the media this week.

South Sydney Rabbitohs squad: 1. Adam Doueihi 2. Dane Gagai 3. James Roberts 4. Braidon Burns 5. Campbell Graham 6. Cody Walker 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Damien Cook 10. Dean Britt 11. John Sutton 12. Ethan Lowe 13. Cameron Murray 14. Tom Amone 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Jaydn Su’A 17. Kyle Turner 18. Kurt Dillon 19. Connor Tracey 20. Bayley Sironen 21. Corey Allan.

HEAD TO HEAD
Since 1998 the Cowboys and Rabbitohs have played each other 33 times, with the men north of the border holding a slender 17 to 15 lead with 1 draw. The Rabbitohs have won their last two games against the Cowboys, including last year’s miraculous 21-20 win in round 16 in Townsville.

KEY BATTLE
Jason Taumalolo will go head-to-head with Cameron Murray in what is going to be a very exciting contest. Taumalolo is a freak, the most damaging ball runner in the game is averaging 212 run metres per game and is tackling at a staggering 93 per cent. His battle against the smaller but silky Murray will play a massive part in deciding who takes home the chocolates.

On the other hand, Murray has been a revelation for the men from Redfern, filling the void left by Angus Crichton exceptionally well. At 21, Murray has been a standout for the Bunnies this year, which saw him represent NSW in all three Origin games this year. Scoring six tries and averaging 1.3 offloads, Murray is always dangerous when he has the ball in his hand. The Cowboys better hope they clean up the middle of the field as Murray and Cook will be eyeing any chances they can get to exploit their tired forwards.

WHO WILL WIN?
With the Rabbitohs still missing some key players, and the Cowboys coming off a great road win against the premiership favourites, I would suggest tipsters to go for the home side.

North Queensland by eight.

MATCH PREVIEW | Canberra Raiders vs Wests Tigers

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Canberra Raiders
A fortnight after their Darwin collapse, Canberra faced a dangerous trip to Wollongong against the St. George-Illawarra Dragons. The Raiders responded with seven tries in a 36-14 win, including a double to Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and a record-breaking 121st try to captain Jarrod Crocker. It vaulted Canberra (10-6) to third after the Sydney Roosters lost to North Queensland. Eyeing a top four finish (and a home final), Canberra will want to expand on their 5-3 home record in the run to the finals. Canberra will wear a special home jersey celebrating the 1989 premiership.

Wests Tigers
The Tigers’ finals hopes stalled with another loss to Parramatta at Bankwest Stadium. While not as bad as the Easter Monday mauling, the 30-18 loss was a sad end to favourite son Benji Marshall’s 300th game, though David Nofoaluma scored a double. With two wins from their last five games, the 7-9 Tigers are still one win outside the eight.

SQUAD NEWS
Canberra Raiders
Michael Oldfield replaces the suspended Nick Cotric (three weeks with the early guilty plea). Josh Papalii returns to the starting side, with Iosia Soliola moving to the bench.

Canberra squad: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Bailey Simonsson 3. Jarrod Croker 4. Michael Oldfield 5. Jordan Rapana 6. Jack Wighton 7. Aidan Sezer 8. Josh Papalii 9. Josh Hodgson 10. Dunamis Lui 11. John Bateman 12. Elliott Whitehead 13. Joseph Tapine 14. Siliva Havili 15. Corey Horsburgh 16. Sia Soliola 17. Emre Guler 18. Sam Williams 19. Royce Hunt 20. Jack Murchie 21. JJ Collins.

Wests Tigers
Only one change: Paul Momirovski replaces Robert Jennings on the wing.

Wests Tigers squad: 1. Corey Thompson 2. Paul Momirovski 3. Moses Mbye 4. Esan Marsters 5. David Nofoaluma 6. Benji Marshall 7. Luke Brooks 8. Josh Aloiai 9. Robbie Farah 10. Alex Twal 11. Ryan Matterson 12. Chris Lawrence 13. Matthew Eisenhuth 14. Jacob Liddle 15. Thomas Mikaele 16. Elijah Taylor 17. Michael Chee-Kam 18. Tommy Taualu 19. Chris McQueen 20. Luke Garner 21. Oliver Clark

HEAD TO HEAD
Canberra continued their cromulent record against the Tigers in lucky round 13 at Bankwest. Enjoying a rare Friday night Channel Nine game, Canberra won 28-0, with tries to Aidan Sezer, Jarrod Croker, John Bateman, Jordan Rapana, and Bailey Simonsson. The highlight for the Green Machine? Their desperation to hold Wests to nil, even when the game was secure. Canberra have loved playing the Tigers recently, with four straight wins from 2016 to 2018: 60-6 and 52-10 (2016), 46-6 (2017), and 48-12 (2018).

KEY BATTLE
Josh Hodgson vs Robbie Farah.

Tigers players and fans will still have nightmares about Hodgson’s game against them last year. Returning after a long injury, he tore the Tigers apart and made the struggling Raiders look like a different team in the 48-12 win. While he hasn’t been at his absolute best this year (not helped by a short injury layoff), Hodgson’s presence and experience is vital for an on-song Green Machine.
Speaking of experience, veteran Tiger Robbie Farah is also vital in keeping their finals hopes alive. He’s played all of the Tigers’ 16 games so far, so Wests will need every bit of his guile from dummy half to cause an upset.

WHO WILL WIN?
Embiggened by the confidence-boosting win against the Dragons, Canberra will enjoy returning to Bruce Stadium (and the Viking Clap) after a month away. With an eye on solidifying their top four spot, Canberra should have too much class for the inconsistent Tigers.

Canberra by 20.

MATCH PREVIEW | Sydney Roosters vs Newcastle Knights

TEAM FORM GUIDE
Roosters
The defending premiers had a tough loss last week against a very determined Cowboys side. They’ll be fired up after that and with all troops back on deck looking to return to the form that saw them go on an eight game winning streak after their Round One loss to the Rabbitohs.

Knights
The boys from the Hunter are coming off back to back losses for the first time since their five game skid ended back in April. Like the Roosters they have named their strongest side in a while and need to start winning to lock themselves in the top eight.

SQUAD NEWS
Roosters
It feels like a very long time since the Roosters had a lineup this strong. Luke Keary has been back a few weeks and Jake Friend is back in the number nine jersey after a strong return last week. The only real puzzling thing is Brett Morris on the bench after playing well in the centres last week. Ryan Hall is a massive human being though and showed how good he could be last week with 20 runs, 189 metres and drawing multiple defenders to bring him down.

Roosters team list:
1. James Tedesco,2. Daniel Tupou,3. Latrell Mitchell,4. Joseph Manu,5. Ryan Hall,6. Luke Keary,7. Cooper Cronk,8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves,9. Jake Friend,10. Siosiua Taukeiaho,11. Boyd Cordner,12. Mitch Aubusson,13. Victor Radley,14. Isaac Liu,15. Nat Butcher,16. Angus Crichton,17. Brett Morris

Knights
Back to (almost) full strength after the Origin period. Kalyn Ponga is back at fullback which pushes Connor Watson to the bench and retains Kurt Mann at 5/8th.  Aidan Guerra is on an extended bench and is a chance of being a late inclusion after a few weeks in reserve grade.

Knights Team List:
1. Kalyn Ponga,2. Hymel Hunt,3. Tautau Moga,4. Jesse Ramien,5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall,6. Kurt Mann,7. Mitch Pearce,8. Daniel Saifiti,9. Danny Levi,10. David Klemmer,11. Mitch Barnett,12. Sione Mata’utai,13. Tim Glasby,14. Connor Watson,15. James Gavet,16. Herman Ese’ese,17. Jamie Buhrer

HEAD TO HEAD
Roosters have obviously been dominant lately with the Knights going through a rebuild and the defending champs being very consistent under the coaching of Trent Robinson. Sydney have won eight of the last ten, however the Knights got a big 38-12 when these teams faced off back in Round 11 with Kalyn Ponga scoring 18 points.

KEY BATTLE
Battle of the fullbacks. The two first choice Origin fullbacks James Tedesco and Kalyn Ponga. Both have the ability to rip opposition teams apart by themselves and are firmly in the conversation about best players in the game. Tedesco has obviously been playing at the elite level for longer and is coming off a huge Origin series where he won the Wally Lewis Medal, but no matter which way this game goes you can bet that one of these guys will have a hand in the result.

WHO WILL WIN?
Tight one. This should be a great game and likely best game of the round. Roosters are favourites but I think it’ll be a lot closer than the bookies are predicting. Roosters by two.

Panthers v Dragons preview

Panthers eye off magnificent seventh win

Two months after hitting rock bottom with two wins from their opening ten matches, the Penrith Panthers will be out to solidify a place in the top eight by accounting for the St George Illawarra Dragons at Panthers Stadium on Friday evening.

Coming into the contest after accounting for the Gold Coast Titans, 24-2, in a dour affair last Friday, the Panthers have transformed their season with six straight wins to emerge as legitimate top eight contenders - a prospect few could have envisioned for a team ranked 16th at the end of Round 10.

Playing with renewed enthusiasm following the introduction of rookies Liam Martin, Brian To'o, Mitchell Kenny and Brent Naden, the improved form of James Maloney has also been especially telling with the veteran playmaker stamping his authority on a number of results during the middle-third of the season.

Holding a solid record against the joint venture with seven wins from 12 fixtures this decade, coach Ivan Cleary will be hoping the home ground advantage plays to his side's favour having won four of the past five clashes against the Dragons at Panthers Stadium.

Regaining Nathan Cleary for his first appearance since sustaining an ankle injury in Origin II, Jarome Luai drops to the bench with last week's debutant Jed Cartwright shifting to the extended squad.

Teams Squad

Panthers
1. Dylan Edwards 2. Josh Mansour 3. Dean Whare 4. Brent Naden 5. Brian To'o 6. James Maloney 7. Nathan Cleary 8. James Tamou 9. Mitch Kenny 10. James Fisher-Harris 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Frank Winterstein 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Wayde Egan 15. Jarome Luai 16. Moses Leota 17. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 18. Hame Sele 19. Jed Cartwright

Dragons
1. Matthew Dufty 2. Jonus Pearson 3. Euan Aitken 4. Timoteo Lafai 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Corey Norman 7. Darren Nicholls 8. Blake Lawrie 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. James Graham 14. Josh Kerr 15. Korbin Sims 16. Patrick Kaufusi 17. Luciano Leilua 18. Reece Robson 20. Tristan Sailor

Coming off a performance described by coach Paul McGregor as their "worst of the season", the Dragons will be desperate to improve in order to avoid the possibility of claiming the club's first wooden spoon.

Offering little resistance throughout last Sunday's 36-14 loss to Canberra at WIN Stadium, the Dragons will need to display greater defensive resolve after missing 54 tackles, along with improving their go-forward in light of every forward failing to run for over 100 metres.

Winning four in a row against Penrith prior to last year's 28-2 defeat at Panthers Stadium, the Dragons remain a mathematical chance of clinching a top eight berth despite managing just two wins from their past ten matches; however with the Bulldogs finding form and the Titans set to respond following Garth Brennan's dismissal, the joint venture faces the possibility of running last should results fail to improve over the final eight rounds.

Making a number of changes headlined by Darren Nicholls coming into the team in place of Ben Hunt (rested), veteran forward James Graham will make a welcome return after seven weeks on the sidelines, while in a personal milestone Tyson Frizell will play his 150th game in the NRL.

Last meeting: Round 12 2018 - Panthers 28 Dragons 2

Who to watch: Unable to break into the NRL during stints with Canberra and Newcastle, despite earning selection in the 2015 Under-20's Team of the Year, a return to the foot of the mountains has seen Brent Naden realise his first grade dream at age 23. Playing alongside current first graders James Fisher-Harris and Moses Leota during his initial Penrith tenure, the Wellington Cowboys junior has been a star performer since debuting against the Sea Eagles, holding an unbeaten record while crossing for four tries. Showing his wares as a game-breaking strike player with a scintillating solo effort in New Zealand, look for Naden to make his mark on Friday night as the Panthers chase seven straight wins for only the fourth time in history.

Providing the Dragons with a spark of optimism in a season punctured by difficulties on and off the field, Mikaele Ravalawa has gone from strength to strength in his rookie campaign. Establishing himself as a permanent fixture on the right wing with nine tries from 15 appearances, the 21-year-old former Canberra lower grader has averaged over 100 metres per game, while making his international debut for Fiji last month. Contracted to the Red V until the end of next season, expect another strong showing from Ravalawa as he strives to follow in the footsteps of fellow Fijian speedsters Noa Nadruku, Akuila Uate, Semi Radradra and Suliasi Vunivalu by topping the NRL try-scorers list with a strong finish over the final eight rounds.

The favourite: Coming off the back of six straight wins and facing a side low on confidence, the Panthers are expected to prove too strong at home.

My tip: While the Dragons will be much improved in their defensive resolve following an indefensible performance, the attacking potential of the Panthers should be the difference.
Panthers by 16.

MATCH PREVIEW | New Zealand Warriors vs Cronulla Sharks

Team Form Guide

New Zealand Warriors

The Warriors started strong against the Brisbane Broncos last week leading 16-6, but a second-half collapse saw the Warriors in Golden point for the second time in three weeks resulting in the first draw since 2016.

Cronulla Sharks

The Sharks losing streak went into its fourth week last round when they were soundly defeated by the Melbourne Storm 40-16. The welcome return of key players this week will have Shark fans anticipating a return to the winner’s circle.

Squad News

New Zealand Warriors

The Warriors have named the same side from last weeks draw.

New Zealand Warriors 21-Man Team List: 1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 2. David Fusitu’a, 3. Peta Hiku, 4. Gerard Beale, 5. Ken Maumalo, 6. Kodi Nikorima, 7. Blake Green, 8. Agnatius Paasi, 9. Issac Luke, 10. Leeson Ah Mau, 11. Adam Blair, 12. Isaiah Papali’i, 13. Jazz Tevaga, 14. Lachlan Burr, 15. Sam Lisone, 16. Bunty Afoa, 17. Chanel Harris-Tavita, 18. Adam Pompey, 20. Ligi Sao, 21. Blake Ayshford, 22. Chris Satae

Cronulla Sharks

Matt Moylan and Paul Gallen return from injury while injuries to Josh Morris and Josh Dugan see Aaron Gray move to the wing and Kurt Capewell into the centres. Scott Sorenson takes Capwell’s spot in the back row and Matt Prior moves to the bench.

Cronulla Sharks 21-Man Team List: 1. Matt Moylan, 2. Sosaia Feki, 3. Bronson Xerri, 4. Kurt Capewell, 5. Aaron Gray, 6. Shaun Johnson, 7. Chad Townsend, 8. Andrew Fifita, 9. Jayden Brailey, 10. Aaron Woods, 11. Briton Nikora, 12. Scott Sorensen, 13. Paul Gallen, 14. Blayke Brailey, 15. Jack Williams, 16. Braden Hamlin-Uele, 17. Matt Prior, 18. Billy Magoulias, 19. Kyle Flanagan, 20. William Kennedy, 21. Ronaldo Mulitalo

Head to Head

Played: 34, Sharks 20, Warriors 14

Latest Result: Sharks 18-15, Round 16 2018

Key Battle

My key battle is between the five-eighths Kodi Nikorima and former Warrior Shaun Johnson. Nikorima’s speed and agility have been a welcome addition to the Warriors attack, but he has been predictable the past few weeks always running on the last, added another dimension to his attack could be the key to a Warriors victory here.

All eyes will be on Johnson in his first clash against his former club. He has had his fair share of critics during the Sharks losing streak and will be out to make a statement. He still struggles directed sides around the park but is at his most dangerous when allowed to run freely, his high bombs will be on display regularly in Wellington’s windy conditions and could be vital in disrupting the Warriors daunting back three.

Who will win?

Both sides come into this match lacking confidence and scoring first could be the key to victory.

For the Warriors to win, they need to start the match strongly and, more importantly, keeping the pressure on Cronulla for 80 minutes. The New Zealand side was finding plenty of scoring opportunities last week via their offload game, and they will need to bring out the second phase once again. The Warriors forward pack had a great night on attack last round, but their defence around the ruck area was weak and will be targeted all night, so improvement is required if they want to walk away victorious.

For the Sharks to win they need to target that ruck area, sniping runs out of dummy half and inside passes against the direction of play will turn the Warriors defence inside out and allow Johnson and Moylan to run rampant. The Sharks will need to reduce Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Ken Maumalo’s impact on the game by either kicking to the sidelines or kicking high into the wind, allowing their defensive line plenty of time to get in Tuivasa-Sheck and Maumalo’s faces.

It is going to be a close encounter, but I think the Sharks will come away with the result here. Cronulla will be desperate to taste victory once again, and Johnson will be out to prove a point against his former club.

Broncos v Bulldogs: Oates for Coates; Dogs lose Tolman, Sue

The Bulldogs are serious about steering clear of the wooden spoon if their last two performances are any guide.

The Dogs are chasing a third straight win after consecutive upsets of Cronulla and Newcastle.

Coach Dean Pay has got his players believing in each other and any rivals underestimating them in the run to the finals do so at their own peril.

Brisbane's draw with the Warriors last week wasn't much better than a loss, leaving them with so little room for error over the final eight rounds they simply can't afford to lose to a team below them on the ladder.

The Rundown
Team news
Broncos: Corey Oates returns on the right wing, with Jamayne Issako swapping to left wing and Xavier Coates dropping to the reserves. No other changes to the Brisbane team that drew 18-all with the Warriors in round 17.

Bulldogs: Injuries to Aiden Tolman (ribs) and Sauaso Sue (knee) have forced a reshuffle in the pack with Ofahiki Ogden coming into the starting side and Danny Fualalo joining the bench. Adam Elliott has been promoted to the starting side at lock and Chris Smith goes to the bench.

Key match-up
The clash between Brisbane duo Payne Haas and Matt Lodge and Bulldogs props Dylan Napa and Ofahiki Ogden will go a long way towards deciding who wins the game. If Napa is at his explosive best and inspires Ogden to play a blinder then the Doggies could make it an unprecedented hat-trick of wins for 2019.

For the Broncos to win
They have to contain the Warriors up front and keep turning them around with an effective kick-and-chase game. Anthony Seibold will be banking on Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford to provide good direction, while Kotoni Staggs has to stay defensively sharp for 80 minutes against an in-form Will Hopoate.

For the Bulldogs to win
The Dogs showed no signs of panic or stress when they fell behind early last week and they'll need the same type of poise and self-belief on Thursday night. Two straight wins has them feeling good about themselves and they'll head to Brisbane more confident than they've been all year. Brisbane winger Corey Oates is due for a hat-trick and Canterbury's outside backs can't allow him to get rolling.

Brett Kimmorley says
Canterbury have found some form. Defensively they have been very good lately. They have only scored 20 points four times this year and they have won each time. Can they do that again? There has been a form turnaround from Brisbane lately, their young forwards are looking good. Broncos by 4

Stat Attack
Will Hopoate showed why he's still one of the game's top centres with a marvellous performance against Newcastle. Hopoate had 25 runs for a game-high 235 metres, including 86 post-contact metres. He scored a try, made 21 tackles and also finished with seven tackle breaks and a line break.

And another thing ...
The Bulldogs' 68 percent completion rate against Newcastle was well below their 79 percent average for the season. They had more missed tackles than Newcastle, conceded more penalties and finished with more errors, but once they got a sniff of victory they just looked like they wanted it more than the Knights.

2019 NRL – Melbourne Storm vs Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks Preview & Prediction

THE TEAM NEWS
MELBOURNE STORM

Head Coach: Craig Bellamy

Starting 13: Hughes, Vunivalu, Chambers, Olam, Addo-Carr, Munster, Croft, J. Bromwich, C. Smith, Asofa-Solomona, F. Kaufusi, K. Bromwich, Finucane – Interchanges: B. Smith, Welch, Stimson, Papenhuyzen – Reserves: Kamikamica, Earl

Unavailable: Curtis Scott, Marion Seve

Melbourne made hard work of beating St. George but their under-strength side were able to extend their winning run to seven matches and they can move another step closer to the minor premiership with another win here.

The Storm should have all of their Origin stars back in their line-up having named them all to take the field after returning to Melbourne without any knocks from Wednesday’s bruising encounter.

Justin Olam has received a late call-up to the starting XIII after he was initially named as a reserve and will start in the centres in place of Marion Seve who has been ruled out through injury.
CRONULLA-SUTHERLAND SHARKS

Head Coach: John Morris

Starting 13: Gray, Feki, Xerri, Dugan, Morris, Johnson, Townsend, Fifita, J. Brailey, Prior, Nikora, Capewell, Williams – Interchanges: Bukuya, Woods, Hamlin-Uele, Magoulias – Reserves: Flanagan, B. Brailey

Unavailable: Wade Graham, Matt Moylan, Paul Gallen

Cronulla made it three losses in a row as they suffered a shock defeat at home to a hugely under-strength Brisbane side.

Matt Moylan and Paul Gallen are both out for the Sharks after they failed to finish last week's game against Brisbane and their injuries are sufficient enough to rule them out of this game with Aaron Gray coming in at fullback whilst Jack Williams will lock the pack.

Andrew Fifita is back from his suspension but his return has been countered by the loss of Wade Graham who suffered an injury during Origin so Kurt Capewell starts in the back row and Billy Magoulias is the new name on the bench.

THE PREDICTION

Melbourne's superb run continued as they took another step closer to sealing the minor premiership when winning last week and should be boosted by the return of their Origin stars here. That spells bad news for the Sharks and things might get worse for them with the Storm able to run in a big score on this momentous occasion. Melbourne captain Cameron Smith will make his 400th NRL appearance and with the huge build-up to this game, his teammates will want to honour the future immortal by putting on a show to mark the achievement.

MATCH PREVIEW | Brisbane Broncos vs New Zealand Warriors

Team Form Guide
Brisbane Broncos

The Broncos have been lacking in confidence but looked sharp in their win over the Cronulla Sharks. The forwards, led by Tevita Pangai Junior controlled the tempo of the match and allowed their young backline to test the Sharks edge defence, and their fans will be expected more of the same this week.

Handling errors were a concern last week, and the Broncos will need to show the ball more respect this week.

New Zealand Warriors
The Warriors were expected to defeat an under strength Newcastle Knights side, but they had to work for it in what was an enjoyable match to watch that was unfortunately talked about more for the official’s performance than the actual contest itself. The Warriors were slow starters last week but surged back into the match on the back of their giant winger Ken Maumalo.

The New Zealand side need to come out of the gates firing this week as another slow start may be their undoing.

Squad News
Brisbane Broncos
The Broncos welcome back their State of Origin stars as Corey Oates, David Fifita and Joe Ofahengaue all named. Anthony Milford returns from injury, and Jake Turpin replaces Sean O’Sullivan in the halves, and Herbie Farnworth moves to the centres, replacing the injured Gehamet Shibasaki.

Brisbane Broncos 22-Man Team List: 1. Anthony Milford, 2. Corey Oates, 3. Kotoni Staggs, 4. Herbie Farnworth, 5. Xavier Coates, 6. Darius Boyd, 7. Jake Turpin, 8. Matthew Lodge, 9. Andrew McCullough, 10. Payne Haas, 11. Alex Glenn, 12. Tevita Pangai Junior, 13. Thomas Flegler, 14. James Segeyaro, 15. Joe Ofahengaue, 16. David Fifita, 17. Patrick Carrigan, 18. Keenan Palasia, 19. Rhys Kennedy, 20. Cory Paix, 21. Jamayne Isaako, 22. Izaia Perese

New Zealand Warriors
Only two changes for the New Zealand side as Issac Luke replaces the injured Karl Lawton as the starting hooker and Chanel Harris-Tevita replaces Luke on the bench.

New Zealand Warriors 21-Man Team List: 1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 2. David Fusitu’a, 3. Peta Hiku, 4. Gerard Beale, 5. Ken Maumalo, 6. Kodi Nikorima, 7. Blake Green, 8. Agnatius Paasi, 9. Issac Luke, 10. Leeson Ah Mau, 11. Adam Blair, 12. Isaiah Papali’i, 13. Jazz Tevaga, 14. Lachlan Burr, 15. Sam Lisone, 16. Bunty Afoa, 17. Chanel Harris-Tavita, 18. Hayze Perham, 20. Blake Ayshford, 21. Ligi Sao, 23. Leivaha Pulu

Head to Head
Played: 44, Brisbane 25, Warriors 18, 1 Draw

Latest Result: Brisbane 8-2, Round 11 2019

Key Battle

My key battle is between the five-eighths Darius Boyd and Kodi Nikorima. Boyd has had a year to forget in 2019, and his move into the halves hasn’t given the Broncos the attacking edge they were expecting. Broncos fans will be buoyed by Boyd’s improved performance last week, and he will need to continue on this road of improvement if the Broncos are to walk away victors.

Nikorima is still finding his groove with his new club, but his ability to spot a gap and attack it with pace always means that the Warriors can threaten from anywhere on the park. His kicking game has always been his weakness, but he needs to incorporate more kicks into his play to take pressure off Blake Green.

It should lead to an exciting clash between the former team-mates.

Who will win?
Much like round 11, this match will be close with defence being key to victory.

For the Broncos to win, they will need a repeat performance from their forward pack. The Warriors have been exposed around the ruck area so if the Broncos can control the middle they will control the match, the Warriors defence has improves, but they continue to struggle with tries scored via kicks so if the Broncos look to the air on their last tackle options in the Warriors red zone it should bear fruit.

For the Warrior to win, they need to start strong and get their back three involved early and often. Ken Maumalo’s breakout year continues, and New Zealand will be relying on his strong runs to get themselves deep into the Broncos territory. If the Warriors turn up ready to offload and play a lot of second phase football their road to the winner’s circle becomes that much easier.

It will be a tight tussle, but I think the Warriors have the edge here. Nikorima will be looking at making a statement in his return to Suncorp, and his new team will be more than willing to assist.

MATCH PREVIEW | South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles

TEAM FORM GUIDE
South Sydney Rabbitohs
South Sydney were treated to their bye round last week, and off the back of four straight defeats, a win in their next meeting will be highly sought after.

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
Manly have produced a string of victories during the Origin period with three on the trot and a bye in the last round. They will be looking to continue their winning streak.

SQUAD NEWS
South Sydney Rabbitohs
Sam Burgess returns from a shoulder clean out which forces Ethan Lowe to revert back to the bench. Junior Tatola starts in place of the suspended George Burgess while Adam Doueihi is named at fullback. Jaydn Su’A is listed in the reserves with the possibility of making his club debut.

Squad: 1. Adam Doueihi 2. Dane Gagai 3. James Roberts 4. Braidon Burns 5. Campbell Graham 6. Cody Walker 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Damien Cook 10. Liam Knight 11. John Sutton 12. Sam Burgess 13. Cameron Murray 14. Ethan Lowe 15. Mark Nicholls 16. Dean Britt 17. Kyle Turner 18. Jaydn Su’a 19. Connor Tracey 20. Tom Amone 21. Corey Allan 22. Billy Brittain 23. Bayley Sironen.

Manly-Warringa Sea Eagles
The Sea Eagles have named the same 17 that have played over the past two rounds with Origin reps Tom Trbojevic, Jake Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans are named to back up from Wednesday’s decider.

Squad: 1. Tom Trbojevic 2. Jorge Taufua 3. Dylan Walker 4. Moses Suli 5. Reuben Garrick 6. Cade Cust 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Manase Fainu 10. Martin Taupau 11. Joel Thompson 12. Curtis Sironen 13. Jake Trbojevic 14. Brendan Elliot 15. Corey Waddell 16. Morgan Boyle 17. Taniela Paseka 18. Lachlan Croker 19. Kane Elgey 20. Brad Parker 21. Haumole Olakau’atu 22. Lloyd Perrett.

HEAD TO HEAD
These two rivals last met in a thrilling match in round four at Lottoland where South Sydney were undefeated so far through the season and Manly were looking to post back-to-back wins for the first time. It was an epic matchup with both sides close to full strength and much drama with big hits, injuries and controversial calls, but at full time it couldn’t be split and went to Golden Point. After pair of attempts at the one point winner from both Adam Reynolds and Daly Cherry-Evans, DCE eventually had the home side through with his second attempt from 35 metres for Manly to win 13-12.

Travel in time to now in round 17 and the sides are close once again moving into this game with the Sea Eagles on the edge of slipping into the top four while the Rabbitohs are trying to re-capture their early season form after four straight defeats. They are trying to stay inside that elusive group running into the finals. This meeting will have great significance on the table with the back end of the season upon us.

KEY BATTLE
This match features a mouthwatering battle between the chief playmakers Daly Cherry-Evans and Adam Reynolds. These two command the ball during the biggest of moments of the games with clutch plays which decide the outcome of their sides’ fortunes more often than not.
Reynolds will need to be pivotal in this outing with Souths now staring down the barrel of five straight losses. The number seven’s ability to create forced drop outs (with a tally of 17 this season), his crafty short kicking game, alongside his skill in turning field position for the team to get out of trouble with an average of 400+ kicking metres. Reynolds’ kicking game will be a crucial part in stopping Manly’s outside backs from helping their forwards while applying enough pressure for South Sydney to create chances to score.
The Queensland and Australian halfback, DCE will return to club level to captain Manly after an important Origin decider. The professionalism of Cherry-Evans in providing consistent performances across the season has helped the Sea Eagles stay in the mix for another finals berth. Manly’s main playmaker has aided his younger half Cade Cust to naturally come in and out of the match to assist him while leading himself with 7 try assists and 300+ kick metres providing an all round skill set that brings his other outside backs or forwards into the match. For the streak of wins to continue, the Manly halfback will need to be at the top of his game, taking control with possession in attacking opportunities but also when or if his side is in trouble.

WHO WILL WIN?
This is the match of the round with the Rabbitohs hanging onto their top four position while the Sea Eagles are looking for a top four berth. The return of Sam Burgess for the Bunnies is enormous for their confidence as well as their Origin contingent playing after the decider. It will be up to those stars, alongside the halves of Souths, to turn around their recent dip in form. The Sea Eagles are out to show they are real contenders for the premiership and a top four finish in 2019. With all their star players now back firing after the representative period, the cohesion of Cherry-Evans and both Trbojevics will be paramount if they are to topple Souths. This will be a possession game and low scoring with both sides’ defence being some of the best in the NRL, but with the past performances of South Sydney starting to waiver, it will be close to a must-win to get their run home back on track.

Prediction: Rabbitohs by two.

The biggest banana peel of Newcastle's season awaits.

Form can be deceiving - coming into this contest, Canterbury are the last-start winners, Newcastle the last-start losers. But in reality, both results are the opposite of what people have come to expect from each side this season.

From a slow start, the Knights have been much of what the pre-season pundits were predicting - serious top eight contenders and at times even peeking into the top four. They've only lost two of their past nine matches, but it's arguable Friday night's clash with the Doggies will test their resolve like no other match this season to date.

Canterbury meanwhile, were impressive without being spectacular against a flailing Cronulla side a fortnight ago, and may have unearthed some exciting new talent in halfback Brandon Wakeham. He didn't blow the world away, but the 'Dogs have struggled for consistent halves options as Kieran Foran's ageing body gives way over the last 18 months and this may well be a solution to their ongoing issues in the spine. Combine that with the arrival of former Panther Dallin Watene Zelezniak to provide stability and quality at the back (and that's not to demean Nick Meaney, either) - and the Bulldogs' prospects of avoiding the spoon have increased dramatically in the space of a few weeks.

Having said all that - this game is key for the Knights and they're really going to need to win this game, and win it well, if they want to be taken seriously as the finals contenders turn for home post-Origin.
SQUAD NEWS

Newcastle Knights: 1. Connor Watson 2. Hymel Hunt 3. Kurt Mann 4. Jesse Ramien 5. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 6. Mason Lino 7. Mitchell Pearce 8. James Gavet 9. Danny Levi 10. Josh King 11. Jamie Buhrer 12. Sione Mata'utia 13. Herman Ese'ese 14. Jacob Saifiti 16. Phoenix Crossland 18. Tautau Moga 19. David Klemmer 20. Daniel Saifiti 21. Tim Glasby.

Canterbury Bulldogs: 1. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 2. Nick Meaney 3. Marcelo Montoya 4. Will Hopoate 5. Reimis Smith 6. Brandon Wakeham 7. Jack Cogger 8. Aiden Tolman 9. Michael Lichaa 10. For Newcastle, that means Pearce comes straight back in, just 48 hours after what's sure to be a dramatic Origin finale in Sydney. His teammates in Klemmer and Daniel Saifiti, along with Queensland's Tim Glasby, are only listed as reserves. The bulk of last week's side that fell short against the Warriors is retained as a result, with only Lachlan Fitzgibbon (elbow) missing out. Kurt Mann goes back to centre with Mata'utia listed in the back-row.

Canterbury's main change sees Wakeham start in the halves alongside Jack Cogger, with Renouf Toomaga plugging the gap left on the interchange.

Last meeting: Round 9 2019 - Bulldogs 10 Knights 22

Who to watch: The men wearing the number nine jumpers for their respective sides on Friday night have seen limited time in the past month or so - but for very different reasons. Newcastle rake Danny Levi made his return from an ankle injury last week, and tackled his way very nearly to a Knights victory in an otherwise inexperienced side. He'll be hurting from the last-start loss as much as his teammates and will want to regain that winning feeling he enjoyed until injury struck in the Round 11 win over the Roosters

The story isn't as rosy for Michael Lichaa. He's found himself on the outer, starting at hooker just twice this season for the club he moved to in 2015 after Michael Ennis took his place at the Sharks. After a disastrous opening round loss against the Warriors, Lichaa found himself benched the following week in favour of Jeremy Marshall-King, staying there until he was unceremoniously dumped to Canterbury Cup in Round 8. After six games in the Bulldogs' lower grade side, he's earned a reprieve thanks to injury to JMK - and that came in the best possible form, returning to help his club to a 14-12 victory over his former employer.

The Favorite: Home ground advantage hasn't been kind to the Knights in their recent history against Canterbury, but their form this season has them well supported in this clash.

My tip: Given his niggles had previously prevented him taking part in Origin earlier in 2019, it's tricky to know whether Pearce will take the field just 48 hours after one of the biggest rugby league matches of his career - but it would be folly to think at least one or two of the reserve forwards won't be drafted in, provided they pull up fit. If they do, it's hard to see anything but a Knights victory here.
Knights by 8.
